Ernie Banks 1931-2015

This portrait of Ernie Banks, the greatest power-hitting shortstop of the 20th century, is one of my favorite photographs by the legendary sports photographer Walter Iooss. It was Govinda Gallery’s honor to host the first exhibition of Walter Iooss’ extraordinary baseball photographs. Iooss’ portrait of Ernie Banks, who passed away yesterday, is a testament to the New York Times description of Banks as “an unconquerable optimist who’s sunny disposition never dimmed in 19 seasons with the Chicago Cubs.”
Walter Iooss’ photographs are available through Govinda Gallery.

on of the greatest baseball and photographers ever.
A great picture, so human. And not stage-dressed – check out the loose thread on the peak of the cap and the nicks on the bill. And a joyful expression; yes likely taken during Spring Training, before the grind of the long season set in.
Let’s play two in his honor.
