Walter Iooss is one of the sports world’s most respected photographers and perhaps the single most successful sports photographer in advertising today. He’s shot more than 300 Sports Illustrated covers (his first at the age of 19), contributed to the magazine’s Swimsuit Issue for 30-plus years, and published 13 books—including The New York Times #1 bestseller Rare Air: Michael on Michael in 1993, , and Heaven in 2010—and he has shot campaigns for clients ranging from Coca-Cola, Adidas, Nike, Oakley, Canon, and Gatorade to the National Milk Council and Kellogg’s.

Govinda Gallery has organized a number of exhibitions of Iooss’s legendary photographs, including Classic Baseball (April 2003) and Classic Golf (May 2004) at Govinda Gallery in Georgetown. Those exhibitions were also a launch for Iooss’ books Classic Baseball and Classic Golf. In March of 2004, Govinda Gallery had the great pleasure of organizing an exhibition in Havana at Fototeca de Cuba of Walter Iooss Jr.’s baseball photographs. Baseball Clásico opened on March 4th, 2004 and fans, former and current Cuban baseball players, as well as admirers of photography, attended in droves.
