Irving Burgie, known professionally as Lord Burgess, who wrote many of Harry Belafonte’s greatest hits passed on over the weekend. Among the smash hits he wrote were “Jamaican Farewell,” “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song),” “Island In The Sun,” and more. He wrote 8 of the 11 songs on Belafonte’s Calypso album, the first album to have a million sales….a remarkable set of songs.

Many of you know that Donovan just released a tribute album to Harry Belafonte that covered many of the songs Burgie wrote. What a wonderful thing for Donovan to have honored both Belafonte and Burgie on his latest album.

Donovan’s tribute to Harry Belafonte, Jump In the Line, is available through Donovan’s official website, Apple Music, Spotify, and more.
