Last night it was a pleasure for me to present to Enda Kenny, Ireland’s Taoiseach (Head of State), and his wife Fionnuala, a copy of the book Bob Dylan NYC 1961-1964 that I co-authored with legendary Life magazine photographer Ted Russell. Russell’s photographs have just been featured in a one-person exhibition at Ireland’s national center for photography, the Gallery of Photography in Dublin.

Enda Kenny and his wife had just flown in to Washington the night before and were dining at Martin’s Tavern in Georgetown. They were delighted to receive the recently published book from Rizzoli as many of the previously unpublished images document Dylan in his earliest days in New York City as a folk singer and very much influenced at the time by traditional Irish music.

The Taoiseach is visiting Washington during St. Patrick’s Day week to meet and celebrate with President Obama at the White House. Happy St. Patrick’s Day Enda and Fionnuala Kenny and President and Mrs. Obama

Ted Russell’s photos are available through Govinda Gallery.
