Donovan’s Sapphographs Exhibition and Concert are a Huge Hit in Dublin!

by Chris Murray on November 8, 2010

On Friday evening, October 1st, Donovan’s exhibition of Sapphographs opened at Sol Art Gallery on Dawson street. The Irish media covered Donovan’s exhibition on T.V., radio and print, and the opening reception was packed. Shown here is the feature story in The Irish Daily Mail and a link to the feature story in The Irish Independent.

On Sunday, October 3rd, there was a book signing at Waterstone’s book store on Dawson street for Donovan’s autobiography The Hurdy Gurdy Man. Everyone who purchased a book was personally sung a song by Donovan. A very special guest at the book signing was author and former Miss Ireland Amanda Bruckner, who rode to Waterstone’s from her home on her bicycle. Amanda looked stunning!

Donovan followed up his art and publishing events with a sold-out concert on October 6th at Dublin’s historic Olympia Theater. He played for the first time in Ireland two songs from his just released double CD, Ritual Groove. His band was amazing and his concert ended with a standing ovation from everyone at the Olympia Theater. It was an incredible evening of music.

Before the concert I was in Donovan’s dressing room when his new custom made guitar Atlantis arrived at the theater. Donovan commissioned Atlantis from master luthier Danny Farrington. I watched as Donovan opened the shipping box and took out his new guitar and played it for the first time. It was a very special moment.

The big news regarding Donovan is that this coming June 3rd, 2011, Donovan will be performing his #1 smash LP, Sunshine Superman at The Royal Albert Hall in London. Donovan will be performing the entire album for the first time note for note as it was recorded, accompanied by The London Contemporary Orchestra and other special guests. This is sure to be a night of musical history.
