Alfred Wertheimer to ‘meet and greet’ visitors to his exhibition “Elvis at 21” at The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Alfred Wertheimer’s exhibition of photographs Elvis at 21 opens this Saturday, October 23rd, at The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. Alfred Wertheimer will be at his exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery on Saturday, October 23rd, from 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM to ‘meet and greet’ visitors to the exhibition. If you are in Washington this is a wonderful opportunity to meet Alfred and to see his photographs. This exhibition was developed collaboratively by the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, and Govinda Gallery, and is sponsored by HISTORY™.

    My parents were sitting in an outdoor cafe on the Champs Elysee in 1959 when Elvis Presley walked by in his army uniform. My mother grabbed the invitation from the Reception they had just attended, and ran after Elvis to ask for his autograph. She said by the time he had finished signing his name they were surrounded by other people who recognized him. The autograph disappeared for over 10 years until a laundry room flood caused the moving of boxes, and the autograph was found. It’s now locked away safely, in a safety deposit box.

    Wish I could come I thought at first notice that it was the national Portrait Gallery in London and I was about to juggle my diary. but alas it is in Washington.

    Govinda is my favorite DC gallery and Chris is one of my favorite curators, and I would love to attend this opening. Alas, I will need to be at the Sanity Rally this Saturday as I have a guest who is flying in from the left coast to attend it.
