Ozzy Osbourne 1948-2025

David Murray with Ozzy Osbourne in the Presidential Suite of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. where Ozzy was staying. Ozzy had been visiting Govinda Gallery and Chris Murray to look at photographs of The Beatles by Astrid Kirchherr, Harry Benson, Jurgen Vollmer, and others. Ozzy played unreleased recordings of his rock opera about the mystic Rasputin for David. That evening, Ozzy had us as guests at his concert. At Govinda Gallery, Ozzy collected First Edition books published by Genesis Publications.

We loved Ozzy Osbourne at Govinda Gallery.

    Hey Chris,

So sad the hear the news of Ozzy’s passing. Back in 1970, when Sabbath had just put their first album out, I was living with Joe Palace out in SF, and went down to the Fillmore West to see the band, who was brand new on the music scene. It was still early in the night, with not many people milling around, and one of the bands was setting up. I wandered over to the lip of the stage and lit up a cigarette. Some kid about my age came out of the wings, dropped down and asked to share my smoke, which I did. We exchanged a few sentences, enough for me to tell he was English, probably a roadie I thought. The Sabbath drummer came out and was checking out his kit, while the guitarist and base player came out as well. All of a sudden, the kid I’m talking to hands me back my cigarette, jumps up on the stage, grabs the mic, and starts singing. Ha. I shared a cigarette with the unforgettable legend, Ozzy. He was great by the way, as was the band. I’ve been a fan of both ever since.
