Sly and the Family Stone were one of the most inspiring and groove-heavy bands of all time. Freedom and joy are two words that describe their music… it was liberating. Songs like “Dance to the Music,” “I Wanna Take You Higher,” “Family Affair,” “Sing a Simple Song,” and “Everyday People” made you happy to be alive. Sly synthesized words and music into a funk gospel. I am grateful for Sly.

My band The Heat was given birth by Sly. We were inspired by his genius as a compelling performer, lyricist, composer, and arranger. Thank you Sly for ‘taking us higher.’
