On Sunday, I attended the celebration of Richard Lewis‘ life. It was one of the most extraordinary and beautiful evenings I have ever experienced. It was my good fortune to have edited and have published Richard Lewis’ book Reflections from Hell: Richard Lewis’ Guide on How Not to Live (powerHouse Books). The speakers at the event were all Richard’s dear friends and associates. Susie Essman and Larry David both gave compelling tributes. There was laughter and tears.

The event was in the auditorium of the Directors Guild in Los Angeles. Projected on the movie screen at the start of the celebration was this portrait of Richard by his dear friend, Ronnie Wood. I loved the portrait, as Ronnie Wood had his first exhibition in the United States at Govinda Gallery.

Richard’s beloved wife, Joyce Lapinsky, hosted the event. She presented an extraordinary video of Richard’s life and work that was enjoyed by everyone throughout the program. Her personal tribute at the end of the program touched everyone’s heart.

I am most fortunate to be able to call myself a friend of Richard Lewis’. He brought joy to everyone he knew. He was guided by love. Thank you to his wife Joyce for a beautiful celebration of his life and work.
