Carnegie Hall’s 125th, Sunshine Superman’s 50th, and The Rolling Stones 1st in NYC

by Chris Murray on May 5, 2016

It was 125 years ago today that Carnegie Hall opened its doors. I saw my first concert there, Ray Charles and his Orchestra. I also saw the Rolling Stones first concert in New York City at Carnegie Hall. It’s one of the best concert venues in the world. If you’ve never attended a concert at Carnegie Hall a good one to see will be Donovan’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of his mega-hit “Sunshine Superman” going to number 1 on the charts. That show is on September 15, 2016.

1964_Rolling Stones-posterCarnegie Hall published on their anniversary webpage my story of attending the Stones first concert in New York City on June 20, 1964. It was an unforgettable show. The website also published the vintage poster for that concert which was very much in the style for a poster from over 50 years ago. It was a great pleasure to be able to edit a book of photos on the Rolling Stones that includes some fantastic photos from those very early days of the Stones by Gus Coral, Bob Bonis, and Eric Swayne.
