When we began to create the new Thievery Corporation album, The Richest Man in Babylon, we felt a strong desire to express our respect for the incredible strength and resilience of humanity in all corners of the globe.

After living with the events of the past year -- and escalating calls for war and retribution -- we were drawn to the photos and stories of photographers Daniel Cima, Bill Crandall, and Hector Emanuel. These beautiful and important images capture overlooked people in many different moments on life's arc. Many of the subjects are faced with incredible hardship, yet still manage to carry on. The songs on our new LP are rooted in a similar respect for the ability of human beings of all colors to find hope, even in the midst of despair.

In a world overflowing with disposable imagery, we hope that you appreciate the combination of bravery and compassion needed to produce these humanistic pictures. We also sincerely hope that you will think deeply about the dynamic behind each scene and what it says about the world that we all inhabit.
