Mick Rock and Henry Diltz at DIVE

by Chris Murray on November 6, 2019

Photographers extraordinaire Mick Rock and Henry Diltz came to the after party at DIVE in their honor after their presentation at City Winery. The scene at DIVE was jumpin’. Mick and Henry showed up around midnight and made themselves comfortable in the intimate VIP lounge. There was a big buzz in the room.

The party was hosted by Govinda Gallery and DIVE’s impresario Russell Hirshon. Mick and Henry enjoyed themselves as Nalinee Darmrong, Danielle Diltz, Paige Rozanski, Carlotta Hester, Zoie Lafis, Merissa Kaczmarczyk, Daveeda ‘Queen Bee’ Shaheen, and her friend Haifa seemed to form a new ‘ROCKettes’ as they all took in stories from Mick and Henry about their collaborations with Queen, James Taylor, Lou Reed, Neil Young, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, and more. Morrison Hotel Gallery maestro Peter Blachley held court out front on 21st St. There was a great buzz going on.

Mick Rock’s exhibitions at Govinda Gallery were legendary. His first, A Photographic Record, opened in April of 1999, and Mick’s second in 2002, Moonage Daydream: The Life and Times of Ziggy Stardust and Other Photographs, was also a launch at Govinda for his first limited edition book. Mick’s work was featured in Sound and Vision: Monumental Rock & Roll Photography, curated by Govinda Gallery’s Chris Murray that traveled to six museums from 2011 to 2013. Chris Murray also curated a show for Mick Rock in Liverpool at Matthew Street Gallery in 2004.
