“This is the best non-Stones adventure I have ever had”, said Ronnie Wood from the stage of The Cutting Room in NYC this past Saturday night. He and Rolling Stones’ former lead guitar extraordinaire Mick Taylor had just riffed through two-thirds of an amazing set which was a tribute to blues musician Jimmy Reed. What a treat to see and hear Ronnie play harmonica along with guitar on every song as he honored his blues hero from Mississippi. The legendary Al Kooper accompanied Ronnie and Mick on keyboards.

I was fortunate to attend Friday night’s show with Kim ‘Boss’ Pappaterra from Los Angeles and her posse, and then to Saturday night’s gig sitting at a table directly in front of the stage with Sasha Murray. Sitting next to us was John McEnroe with Jane Rose, Keith Richard’s manager. McEnroe had a big smile on his face throughout the show as Woody and Mick created their blues magic. At Friday night’s show, Austin bluesman Gary Clark Jr. sat in for a few songs and brought the crowd to its feet for a standing ovation.

I had a chance to see Ronnie before his set on Friday and we had a great hug. Ronnie reminisced about his exhibition in Washington. Ronnie Wood had the first exhibition of his art in the United States, Decades, at Govinda Gallery in December 1987. Bill German, who edited Ronnie’s first book, The Works, which was launched at Ronnie’s Govinda exhibition, was in attendance at the Cutting Room show on Friday night.
