Andy Warhol Schlepped Here… I Slept There Too!

I really enjoyed the New York Times story on photographer Chris Makos on October 3. Makos has had seven one-person exhibitions at Govinda Gallery, starting in 1981. Govinda published two silkscreen portfolios of his photographs. Icons featured his portraits of Salvador Dali, John Lennon, Mick Jaggar, Liz Taylor, and Andy Warhol, and Man Ray, a screen print portfolio featuring Makos’s portrait of Man Ray and his passport. Makos is a cornerstone of the photography program at Govinda Gallery. He was one of the most influential photographers on the scene in New York in the 80s and 90s, and is credited with introducing Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat to Andy Warhol. Makos continues to make and exhibit great photos all over the world. I spent many an evening at Makos’s bohemian apartment in New York, enjoying his great hospitality and great art.
