President Obama to visit Ireland!

by Chris Murray on March 18, 2011

Last night the Park Hyatt hotel in Washington was abuzz with a Saint Patrick’s day reception hosted by the Irish Ambassador H.E. Michael Collins and Mrs. Marie Collins. Ireland’s new Prime Minister Enda Kenny and his charming wife Fionnuala had just visited the White House and were set to return later that evening. Ambassador Collins gave Enda Kenny a warm introduction to the assembled crowd. The Prime Minister, or Taoiseach as the position is known in Ireland, gave an inspiring talk about meeting the challenges that Ireland faces with determination and courage.

A round of applause went up from the audience when Prime Minister Kenny announced that President Obama confirmed to him yesterday that he would be visiting Ireland in May. This was indeed very exciting news for everyone!

Below are a few photographs of the reception taken by Carlotta Hester. Last summer Carlotta Hester produced over 100 drawings documenting the legendary All Ireland Music Festival in County Cavan. Over 50 of those drawings will be launched in an exciting new exhibition at Govinda Gallery beginning April 15th.
